As a child my brother and I were sent to Sunday School. Our parents did not attend.
One year during Vacation Bible School, I walked down an isle with some of my friends. I didn't know why, I just went. Someone prayed for me and told me I was a Christian. I was baptized shortly after that.
It wasn't until I was a senior in high school that I came to the realization that I was missing something in my life. I was missing a personal relationship with the Creator of the universe. This time, when I responded to the decision time of an evangelistic service, someone showed me in the Bible how to be saved. This is the beginning to a great life with God.
John 3:16 summarizes the Gospel so well. Salvation is available to all simply because of God's great love for all the peoples of the world. He demonstrated that love by sending Jesus to earth to show us what God is really like. On top of that, Jesus paid the penalty for every person's sin by sacrificing Himself upon the cross. Those who truly believe in Jesus no longer have to worry about suffering the penalty of sin, but have the assurance of an eternity with Jesus.
